The owner of three adult video and novelty stores has avoided trial. The action comes after a Gwinnett County official dropped charges against the owner and the owner’s employees.

A charge of distributing an obscene video was dismissed Wednesday against John Cornetta, who owns The Love Shack video store. Cornetta was expected to stand trial next week.

If convicted, he could have faced a year in jail and a $5,000 fine. Nearby residents and church groups wanted the store out of their neighborhood and staged protests. In March 2001, the store was raided by police.

Earlier this year, a federal appeals court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Gwinnett County to block the opening of Love Shack II. It opened in July.

Jack Be Nimble LLC, a company that is also owned by Cornetta, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing one obscene video and was fined $5,000.

The stores will remain open, Cornetta’s attorney said.
